A suspect who police said stabbed a girl in a Long Beach park is in custody Tuesday following their arrest.

Long Beach Police Department officers were called at 9:25 p.m. Monday to the 100 block of Pacific Avenue between East Broadway and East First regarding a stabbing. When they arrived, the officers learned the suspect, whose gender police did not release, stabbed a juvenile female during an altercation, Lt. Benjamin Vargas told City News Service.

The preliminary investigation indicates the victim confronted the suspect during the argument, which led to the stabbing, police said.

The suspect fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival but was quickly located and taken into custody, Vargas said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital in an unknown condition by Long Beach Fire personnel. The circumstances and motive remain under active investigation, Vargas said.
