The Pasadena Tournament of Roses will open its historic Tournament House to the public for free guided tours beginning next week.

The tours will begin May 7 and will be offered every Thursday at 2 p.m. through Aug. 27. Reservations are required, with each tour limited to about 80 people.

Led by volunteer guides, the tours will last between 90 minutes and two hours and will highlight the history of the Tournament House, organizers said.

“Throughout the year, Tournament House is bustling with activity, serving as the epicenter for the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl Game,” organizers said in a statement. “From the announcements of the Grand Marshal and Rose Queen to community events, it’s a hub of excitement and tradition.”

The property was once owned by chewing gum magnate William Wrigley Jr. and his wife, Ada. The home was donated to the city of Pasadena in 1958 with the condition it serve as the permanent headquarters for the Tournament of Roses, officials said.

The surrounding Wrigley Gardens feature landscaped grounds and rose displays, and visitors are welcome to picnic on the property before or after tours.

Officials noted the home does not have an elevator, and access to upper floors is via a historic staircase. A video presentation of upstairs rooms will be available on the main floor.

Guests are asked to arrive about 10 minutes early for tours. Group reservations for 20 or more people can be arranged through the Tournament of Roses.
