A rapidly spreading brush fire scorched at least 25 acres of vegetation in the Val Verde area Wednesday, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or threats to structures.

The fire was reported at approximately 4 p.m. near Highway 126 at San Martinez Grande Canyon Road, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Initially estimated at about 5 acres, it increased to at least 25 acres by 5 p.m., according to Cal Fire.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation as firefighters continued efforts to halt the blaze’s forward spread.
