The parents of a 15-year-old boy who died when hit by a truck and pinned between two vehicles are asking for an expedited trial in their lawsuit against Campbell Hall, the private school in Studio City where the accident occurred.
Since the June 4, 2025 tragedy, the late Cosmo Silverman’s parents, plaintiffs Adam Silverman and Louise Bonnet, have “been forced over and over again to face the unimaginable reality of their son’s violent and entirely preventable death,” according to their attorneys’ court papers, filed June 26 with Burbank Superior Court Judge Victor Avila.
The parents “have been left to navigate not only the incomprehensible grief of losing their 15-year-old son, but an extensive and involved pre-litigation process” that has made it impossible for the couple to grieve privately or find some semblance of closure, the plaintiffs’ lawyers further state, while contending that Campbell Hall will not be hurt by an advancement of trial.
Cosmo’s father was waiting for Cosmo in the parking lot, heard the accident and rushed to his son, but his effort to help him was too late, according to the plaintiffs’ attorneys’ court papers.
No trial date has been set. The hearing on the parents’ motion is scheduled for July 24.
According to the suit, Cosmo, who was in the ninth grade, was walking between cars in school’s parking lot when a truck drove toward him and pinned him between two vehicles. The teen later died at a hospital.
The plaintiffs issued a statement at time of the filing of the lawsuit on Dec. 30 stating that Campbell Hall was negligent and that there were “systemic failures in supervision and campus safety” that contributed to Cosmo’s death The lawsuit alleges that other parents had complained about the parking lot layout before Silverman’s death to no avail.
A $10 million settlement was previously reached with the owners of the truck that struck Cosmo, Brian Riordan and his daughter, Reyanne Elizabeth Riordan. Judge Lee Arian approved the accord on June 17.
Reyanne Riordan allegedly drove the truck that struck Cosmo and was picking up her 15-year-old sister at the time. Reyanne Riordan was 19 at the time and is now 20. Both Riordans have been dismissed as defendants.
After the accident, Campbell Hall installed barriers similar to those at other area schools aimed at preventing future similar tragedies, according to the plaintiffs’ lawyers’ pleadings.
