[16:9 Featured] Department of Water and Power LADWP Truck

Crews were working Friday to repair several broken water mains, including an 8-inch line in the Fairfax district and a 36-inch main in Westchester.

The Fairfax break was reported about 5:15 p.m. Thursday near Rosewood and Curson avenues, and affected about 30 customers, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

The Westchester problem was reported about 11:50 p.m. Thursday in the 5900 block of Century Boulevard near Aviation boulevard, according to the DWP.

Repair crews shut off the flow of water from both mains and were working to repair them, said DWP spokeswoman MaryAnne Pierson.

The customers affected by the Fairfax break remained without service Friday afternoon, she said.

There were no service disruptions from the Westchester break because other water mains remained operational in the area. But only one eastbound lane of Century Boulevard was open east of Los Angeles International Airport during the Friday evening rush as crews worked on the line, Pierson said.

Several small breaks were reported in Mar Vista around 8:25 Friday morning, but no customers were affected, she said.

Despite the hot weather, the DWP experienced relatively few power outages Friday.

About 20 customers were affected by an outage in Los Feliz and another 17 customers were without power in Tarzana as of 5 p.m. Friday, Pierson said. She had no estimate on when their service would be restored, nor details about what caused the outages.

“The system is performing very well, both the water and the power systems,” Pierson said early Friday tonight. “Right now, there are very few problems.”
