The blaze that killed around three dozen animals at a pet store in unincorporated Lennox caused around $140,000 in damages, fire officials said Wednesday.
The fire, which was sparked by an electrical problem, broke out at 2:31 a.m. Tuesday in the 4400 block of Lennox Boulevard, and firefighters knocked down the blaze in about 30 minutes, the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported. No people were hurt in the fire.
About 250 pets were evacuated from the building, but 35 of them died, said county fire Inspector Joey Marron. Among the dead animals were birds, reptiles and a cat, authorities said.
The damage was estimated at $100,000 to the structure and $40,000 to its contents, said Los Angeles County fire dispatch supervisor Ed Pickett.
