The sharp increases that pushed the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County to its highest amount since May 4, 2014, appeared to end Friday with a decrease of a cent to $4.292.

The average price had risen 75.7 cents over the previous seven days, including 2.2 cents on Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The Orange County average price dropped eight-tenths of a cent Friday to $4.267 after rising 77.8 cents over the previous seven days, including 2.7 cents on Thursday, to its highest amount since May 6, 2014.

“It appears that the markets are settling down with the wholesale price in L.A. giving back about half of last week’s more than $1 per gallon increase,” said Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
