Blink Fitness, which has more than 50 locations and 300,000 members in the New York area, announced Monday it is expanding into the Los Angeles metro area.

“The availability of prime real estate in dense neighborhoods with comparable demographics to much of Blink’s home turf in the New York area made the Los Angeles marketplace an appealing next step for expansion,” said Todd Magazine, president of Blink Fitness. “We look forward to providing both a luxury gym experience at an affordable price and a groundbreaking approach to fitness.”

The company’s first signed lease is at 6714 Pacific Blvd. in Huntington Park, with plans to open at that location by the end of the year, he said. The address is home to the Huntington Park Warner Theatre, a former 1930s movie theater that has been vacant since the mid-1990s.

The company plans to preserve the historic elements of the building, including the marquee and original painted art deco designs, and will be the only tenant in the theater space, according to Magazine.

Recently dubbed “the Target of gyms” by Yahoo! Finance, Blink Fitness was founded in 2011 and plans to reach 300 locations in the next five years through corporate-owned expansion as well as franchise growth, according to a company statement.

The company has more than 70 locations open or in development throughout New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and California.
