Tiger Woods will be among the first two pros participating in Wednesday’s Genesis Open pro-am, starting his final preparations for the only PGA Tour event he has entered at least 10 times and never won.
Woods is scheduled to begin his round at 6:40 a.m. from the first tee at The Riviera Country Club. Also beginning his round at 6:40 a.m., but from the 10th tee, is fellow American Bryson DeChambeau, fifth on the Official World Golf Ranking, eight spots ahead of Woods.
The pro-am field also includes five other players in the Official World Golf Ranking Top 10 — third-ranked Dustin Johnson, fourth-ranked Justin Thomas, sixth-ranked Jon Rahm, seventh-ranked Xander Schauffele and ninth-ranked Rory McIlroy.
Tickets for the pro-am are $25 in advance, $35 at the box office.
The Genesis Open is Woods’ second PGA Tour event in 2019. He was among five golfers tied for 20th at the Farmers Insurance Open, which concluded Jan. 27. Woods shot a 10-under-par 278, 11 shots behind the winner, Englishman Justin Rose.
“I think I need to hit the ball a little bit better with my irons, hit the ball more pin high, which I normally do a pretty good job of,” Woods said after completing his final round, when he shot a 5-under-par 67, his best score of the tournament.
Woods is making his 13th appearance in the Genesis Open. He made his first appearance in a PGA Tour event at the 1992 Nissan Los Angeles Open, when he was 16 years old. Woods lost in a playoff to Billy Mayfair in the 1998 tournament, his only loss in 12 playoffs on the PGA Tour.
Woods tied for second in the 1999 tournament with Davis Love III and Ted Tryba, two shots behind winner Ernie Els. He missed the cut in the 2018 Genesis Open.
Tournament play begins Thursday, with ticket prices beginning at $55 in advance and $65 at the box office.
Parking is available in Santa Monica’s downtown parking structures S1-S8, where regular parking rates and rules apply. After parking, guests are directed to the tournament shuttle pick-up/drop-off location.
