Friday is the final day for motorists to take driver’s tests and register their cars at the Department of Motor Vehicles office in Palm Springs as the building will close at the end of day to undergo renovations, which are expected to take about six months to complete.

Planned renovations include replacing the parking lot, making ADA accessibility upgrades, creating a more efficient office layout with new furniture, and painting both the interior and exterior of the building at 950 N. Farrell Drive, according to the DMV.

The office will close at 5 p.m. and is scheduled to reopen sometime in September.

“The department is in the process of identifying temporary office space to help residents conduct DMV business during the closure,” according to a DMV statement. “The DMV reminds customers that online services may save them a trip to a field office.”

By visiting www.dmv.ca.gov, customers can change an address, request a driver record, renew a driver license or vehicle registration and schedule an appointment.

Customers can also visit the following DMV locations during the closure:

— Palm Desert, 74-740 Technology Drive;

— Indio, 44480 Jackson St.; and

— Banning, 1034 W. Ramsey St.

At the Palm Desert office, customers can also renew their vehicle registration and get their registration card and license plate sticker instantly by using a self-service terminal.
