Ongoing work to upgrade the Long Beach (710) Freeway will prompt overnight closures of some lanes and ramps in the Commerce, Bell Gardens and Vernon areas this week, along with a full closure of part of the northbound freeway this weekend, Caltrans announced Monday.

Most of the following closures will begin Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 7 p.m. each day and continue through 6 a.m. the next day:

On the northbound 710 Freeway:

— up to three lanes from Florence Avenue to Whittier Boulevard;

— Atlantic Boulevard/Bandini Boulevard off-ramp;

— Atlantic Boulevard on-ramp;

— Washington Boulevard on-ramp;

— Olympic Boulevard on-ramp and off-ramp;

— connector from the northbound 710 Freeway to the northbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.);

— connector from the northbound 5 Freeway to the northbound 710 Freeway (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.)

On the southbound freeway:

— up to three lanes from the 5 Freeway to Florence Avenue;

— connector from southbound 710 Freeway to southbound 5 Freeway;

— connector from southbound 5 Freeway to southbound 710 Freeway from (11 p.m. to 5 a.m.);

— Third Street on-ramp and off-ramp;

— Olympic/Whittier Boulevard on-ramp and off-ramp;

— Eastern Avenue on-ramp and off-ramp;

— Washington Boulevard on-ramp and off-ramp.

From Friday at 11:55 p.m. through Saturday at 5 a.m., there will be a full closure of the northbound 710 Freeway from Florence Avenue to Atlantic/Bandini Boulevard.

Also closed during that time will be the Florence Avenue on-ramp, the Atlantic/Bandini Boulevard off-ramp and the Washington Boulevard off-ramp.

From 5 a.m. Saturday through 11 p.m. Sunday, only two lanes of the northbound 710 Freeway will be open from Florence Avenue to Atlantic/Bandini Boulevard. Closures will be in place on the Atlantic/Bandini off-ramp and the Washington Boulevard off-ramp.

And from 11 p.m. Sunday through 5 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, there will be a full closure of northbound 710 Freeway from Florence Avenue to the 5 Freeway. Also closed will be the Florence Avenue on-ramp, the Atlantic/Bandini Boulevard off-ramp and the Washington Boulevard off-ramp.

Some closures may start and end later. All closures are weather-permitting and subject to change.

The work is part of a $150.7 million pavement rehabilitation and bridge widening project that stretches 3.7 miles from Bell to East Los Angeles.
