Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am announced a $5 million fundraising effort Tuesday in conjunction with the release of his song “American Dream,” with the goal of expanding science and technology education programs for students in under-served communities.

“Fair access to quality education is a social justice issue that is core to achieving the American Dream,” will.i.am said in a statement. “Kids that graduate from high school with STEAM skills and go onward to college have better career paths, the opportunity to start businesses, build wealth and lift their families and communities out of poverty.”

Funds raised by the drive will go the i.am Angel Foundation to help provide science, technology, engineering, arts and math programs for college-bound students.

As of Tuesday morning, the GoFundMe effort had already generated more than $2 million. The donation site is at gfme.co/dream. People can also donate via text message by texting DREAM to 41411.

The song “American Dream” is available on Apple Music and iTunes, while “American Dream” programming will be offered through Apple Music and Apple Podcasts.
