A man died Tuesday after his vehicle crashed into an unoccupied Jeep on Interstate 10.
Officers responded to the westbound freeway near Highland Springs Avenue at around 6:20 a.m. Tuesday to a report of a two-vehicle crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officer Montez of the CHP told City News Service that a woman driving a Jeep Compass was traveling westbound in the No. 2 lane when she experienced unknown mechanical problems that caused her vehicle to lose power.
She coasted her Jeep to the third lane and activated her four-way flashers, got out of the car with her child and climbed over the K-rail on the south side of the highway, Montez told CNS.
A short time after, an unidentified man driving a Kia Forte westbound in the No. 3 lane hit the unoccupied Jeep and died at the scene, according to Montez.
Two lanes of westbound I-10 were closed, but one lane and the crossover lane remained open, Montez said.
