An unknown substance that spilled inside a Jurupa Valley business Friday prompted an evacuation of the building and led to at least four people suffering from exposure.
The hazmat emergency was reported about 10:15 a.m. in the 2200 block of Via Cerro, just east of Market Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
A half dozen engine crews and several ambulances were sent to the location, where three people reported feeling ill, fire officials said.
The entire building was evacuated. The three civilians were taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment, according to reports from the scene. At least one firefighter also required medical attention and was taken to Riverside Community Hospital for evaluation.
As of noon, the source of the substance had not been publicly identified. A hazmat unit was at the site, investigating.
No streets were closed around the location.
