The Special District Leadership Foundation awarded the Coachella Valley Public Cemetery District with a Transparency Certificate of Excellence for its two-year initiative to enhance openness and accountability, officials announced Wednesday.

CVPCD received the award for its ethics training, open and public meetings, transactions and compensation report filings with the state controller, audits, and for adhering to the foundation’s website guidelines and outreach best practices, according to a statement from the district.

“Significant investments in the development of a new website, our new board room facility’s audio-visual capabilities and organizational training and development all contributed to making this recognition possible,” the chair of the district’s Board of Trustees, Ernesto Rosales, said in a statement.

CVPCD is an independent state district formed in 1927, serving public cemetery needs in the Coachella Valley and unincorporated areas of Riverside County, according to district officials. The foundation is an independent, nonprofit organization that promotes best practices among the state’s special districts through recognition programs.

“This award is a testament to CVPCD’s commitment to open government and empowering the public with information to facilitate engagement and oversight,” CVPCD general manager Joshua Bonner said.
