A vehicle smashed into a light pole and fire hydrant Thursday after the driver lost control and overturned on a Moreno Valley street, leaving the motorist injured and causing flooding that forced partial closure of an intersection.
The crash happened about 3:45 p.m. at Meridian Parkway and Opportunity Way, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency said that the sedan was going southbound on Meridian at an unknown speed when it jumped the curb, plowed through the SoCal Edison light standard, which collapsed into a gutter, then overturned and struck the hydrant, cracking it open.
No other vehicles were involved.
Riverside County Fire Department crews reached the location 15 minutes later and found the driver trapped inside the car, which was upside-down in the No. 2 lane of southbound Meridian. Firefighters pried a door open and freed the motorist, who suffered minor injuries, according to officials at the scene.
CHP officers closed one lane on Meridian due to significant water flow from the broken hydrant.
An Eastern Municipal Water District crew was sent to repair it.
SoCal Edison technicians were also requested to remove the snapped light pole and secure electrical lines left lying in the roadway.
The CHP was investigating the crash.
