A brush fire in Castaic that burned at least 14 acres of vegetation is now 70% contained, Fox 11 reported Wednesday.
Firefighters responded to a report of the fire near Lake Hughes Road at about 8 p.m. Tuesday. The flames were burning at a moderate speed and moved toward Castaic Lake, according to the Angeles National Forest.
The fire had grown to 14 acres by 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, but firefighters made “good progress” extinguishing the flames and there was a “low threat to the community,” the ANF tweeted.
The U.S. Forest Service and the Los Angeles County Fire Department battled the blaze with the use of night-flying helicopters as well as ground personnel.
Lake Hughes Road was closed east of Castaic and remained closed overnight, officials said.
No injuries were reported. It was unclear what sparked the blaze.
