A section of Interstate 10 near Cactus City reopened Wednesday after closing due to a fiery big-rig crash.

The crash was reported at about 12:50 a.m. Wednesday near the Cactus City Rest Area off-ramp, according to Public Information Officer David Torres of the California Highway Patrol, who said the big rig crashed into the center divider.

“After the crash, the tractor-trailer combination vehicle caught fire and blocked both lanes of Interstate 10 westbound,” Torres said in a statement. “The California Department of Transportation responded to the scene for a long-term closure.”

All traffic was diverted onto the westbound Cactus City Rest Area and then back onto I-10 westbound to bypass the closure, according to Torres.

“The CHP will remain on scene until the recovery is completed,” Torres said. Interstate 10 westbound was estimated to reopen at around noon, but opened by around 10 a.m.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the crash was still being determined, but alcohol and drugs were not considered factors, officials said.
