At least two people were taken into custody Tuesday following a dangerous, high-speed pursuit that wound through the downtown Los Angeles area and involved a series of collisions, including one that brought the chase to an end near an elementary school in the Westlake area.

Officers began pursuing the vehicle after responding to reports of a possible shooting, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. No details of that alleged shooting were immediately available.

CBS2 reported that as many as five people were in the SUV. At points during the chase, the driver sped the wrong way down one-way streets downtown, and multiple other vehicles were side-swiped as the motorist tried to squeeze through building afternoon rush-hour traffic.

The pursuit ended shortly before 5 p.m. when the SUV collided with another vehicle near East Edgeware Road and Temple Street. Multiple occupants dispersed from the SUV and tried to flee into the area near an elementary school.

CBS2 video from the scene showed at least two people being taken into custody a short time later, and a search was continuing for other suspects.
