A 40-year-old woman walking in a crosswalk in Baldwin Hills was struck and killed early Tuesday by a vehicle whose driver drove away.

The woman and her boyfriend were walking in a crosswalk to the 7-Eleven store on the northeast corner of Obama and La Cienega boulevards from a nearby homeless encampment when she was hit by a speeding vehicle, Fox11 reported, citing information from the Los Angeles Police Department.

The man was not injured, according to Fox 11.

LAPD officers were called to the intersection at 1:55 a.m. where they learned a dark colored vehicle heading north on La Cienega Boulevard had struck the woman, a department spokesman told City News Service.

Los Angeles Fire Department personnel were summoned and pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

She was later identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner as Yvonne Parks.

Video from the scene shows the boyfriend, with his back towards the camera, covered by a yellow blanket and accompanied by crisis counselors from Mayor Karen Bass’ office, Fox 11 reported.

The boyfriend is seen throwing himself on the ground, repeatedly saying over and over again, “I love you” to the body of his dead girlfriend, according to Fox 11.

“They had a green light, but before they got to the curb, the light turned red and car’s flying down this hill about 60-70 mph,” a witness told Fox 11. “One car honks his horn, the man steps out of the way, but the woman didn’t. She was right in the middle of running when she got hit. She flew all the way down to where she’s laying at.”

A piece of that car — believed to be a bumper — that hit the woman was left behind, leading police to believe they are looking for the driver of a dark-colored Toyota Camry, Fox 11 reported..

Los Angeles has a standing $50,000 reward offer for information that leads to a conviction in a fatal hit-and-run.
