A brush fire that broke out Monday on a hillside just north of Jurupa Valley charred roughly 30 acres before it was stopped.
The non-injury “Sierra Fire” was reported at 3:20 p.m. along Sierra Avenue, near Armstrong Road, in an area known as Jurupa Hills, bordering the San Bernardino County line, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said that multiple engine and hand crews from both Riverside and San Bernardino counties were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate in the hills northeast of the Oak Quarry Golf Club.
Several Cal Fire water-dropping helicopters were able to make targeted drops in support of ground crews, according to reports from the scene.
At 4:20 p.m., the brusher’s forward rate of spread was halted, and crews were establishing tentative containment lines.
No homes or other structures were damaged.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
