A brush fire that broke out Friday just south of Highway 74 in Valle Vista burned nearly two acres and threatened several properties before firefighters deployed to protect them.

The non-injury “Acacia Fire” was reported at 12:50 p.m. in the 44100 block of Acacia Avenue, near First Street, less than a quarter-mile south of the highway, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate through medium brush, including a thicket of trees, in the direction of residences on the perimeter of a field.

Firefighters quickly established protective lines and prevented the flames from reaching the properties, according to reports from the scene.

No Cal Fire aircraft were requested from nearby Hemet-Ryan Airport.

As of 1:20 p.m., the brusher had slowed significantly, and crews were making steady progress encircling it, officials said.

There was no immediate word regarding how the fire started.
