The Mission Inn Foundation will host a fundraiser Saturday that will showcase various artifacts from the original owner and chief developer of the Mission Inn hotel and one of the city of Riverside’s most important early promoters, Frank Miller.
The fundraiser will be held at the Fox Performing Arts Center in Riverside, located at 3801 Mission Inn Ave., from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday.
“Frank Miller’s Vault” will feature exclusive artifacts from his personal collection, a scavenger hunt inside the theatre, a silent auction and food and drinks. Proceedings from the non-profit organization’s event will help preserve, protect and share the history of Miller’s Mission Inn.
“Miller’s collections, which include bells, crosses, statues, and numerous other decorative items, were carefully curated to create a rich and immersive environment for guests. These items not only serve as decorations, but also symbols of the diverse influences that shaped Miller’s vision for the Mission Inn,” the foundation said in a statement.
Miller, a surveyor and civil engineer, bought the hotel in 1880 and incorporated various artworks and architectural styles from the many countries he visited. By 1931, the establishment expanded to an entire city block and comprised gardens, towers, arches and winding stairways.
