Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis awarded $450,000 in district funding Wednesday to Pico Union Project for the group’s Vida Sana Program, which provides fresh produce, groceries and other essentials to 400 neighborhood families each week.
“I am proud to reaffirm my support for Pico Union Project and the crucial role the Vida Sana program initiative plays in uplifting our community by providing essential services and providing access to valuable resources to communities in Pico Union and surrounding areas,” Solis said. “I look forward to seeing the positive impact this program will have in the lives of these residents.”
The money comes from the First District Community Grants Program, which helps support organizations in such areas as arts, environmental justice, health, housing, immigration and education.
Other grant money from the program has been awarded by Solis to the city of El Monte ($2 million), CultivaLA ($1 million), JWCH Institute Inc. ($851,000), the Wellness Center ($650,000), the Anti-Recidivism Coalition ($90,000), CHIRLA ($250,000), Para Los Ninos ($250,000) and East LA Women’s Center ($250,000).
