A Metrolink train fatally struck a pedestrian Saturday evening in the Antelope Valley, causing the track in the area to be shut down for the investigation and trapping about 70 passengers in an unsafe area to exit.
The fatality was reported at 6:22 p.m. Saturday between the Lancaster and Palmdale stations, Metrolink spokesman Chris Gutierrez told City News Service. It was unclear what the person was doing on the tracks.
The age and gender of the pedestrian was not available, Gutierrez said.
The passengers could not get off of the train because the crash site was deemed too dangerous at first, he said. They were allowed to get off the train about 8 p.m.
Metrolink was unable to secure buses to take passengers to Palmdale, so they were offered $50 rideshare vouchers, according to Metrolink’s posts on its X social media account. Ticketed passengers whose trains were impacted also were offered vouchers.
