Bronny James will play for the South Bay Lakers Sunday when they face the Stockton Kings at UCLA Health Training Center in El Segundo after being assigned by the Lakers to their NBA G League affiliate earlier in the day.
James, the oldest son of NBA career scoring leader LeBron James, has played one game for the South Bay Lakers. He scored six points, making 2 of 9 shots, including missing all four of his 3-point shots, made his only free throw, which was worth 2 points under an experimental G League rule, and had four assists in 31 minutes, 21 seconds of play in a 110-96 victory over the Salt Lake City Stars on Nov. 9 at the UCLA Health Training Center.
Under the NBA G League’s experimental one free throw rule, one made free throw is awarded one, two or three points in the event of any foul that would typically result in one, two or three free throws being shot under standard NBA rules.
The rule does not apply during the last two minutes of the fourth quarter or all of any overtime period.
The 5 p.m. game will be televised by ESPNU.
The 6-foot-2-inch, 210-pound guard most recently played for the Los Angeles Lakers last Sunday, not taking a shot or free throw in the final 1:40 of a 123-103 victory over the Toronto Raptors at Crypto.com Arena.
James did not play in any of the Lakers’ last three games. He has scored four points in 15:50 of play in six games, making 1 of 6 shots, missing all four of his 3-point attempts, and making both his free throws.
