A motorcyclist was killed Saturday when a bike went off Ortega Highway (74) in Rancho Mission Viejo, northeast of San Juan Capistrano, authorities said.
The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 2:16 p.m. Saturday and occurred on the eastbound side of Ortega Highway east of Sierra Pasture Road.
The motorcycle and rider were both found 30 feet down a ravine, a witness told the CHP.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The CHP issued a Sigalert at 2:56 p.m. shutting down Ortega Highway in the area of the crash.
