A person involved in a collision on the San Diego (5) Freeway in San Juan Capistrano Saturday died later at a hospital, according to records.
The crash was reported at 8:49 a.m. Saturday on the southbound San Diego Freeway just south of Junipero Serra Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A white sedan and silver sedan collided hard enough that airbags deployed in both cars, a witness told the CHP.
The person in the white car appeared to be impaired and a witness reported the person was driving recklessly prior to the crash.
The driver’s brother told authorities he received a call from his brother, who sounded “out of it.”
It appeared the driver was taken to Mission Regional Hospital, and eventually the CHP labeled the collision as a fatality.
