Firefighters extinguished a fire and rescued a puppy on the second floor of a multi-family dwelling in Palm Springs Saturday.

The fire was reported around 8:25 a.m. Saturday at a residential complex at 3589 McCarthy Rd., where firefighters found a single unit on the second floor of the building on fire, according to the Palm Springs Fire Department.

Responding personnel initiated suppression efforts after locating the fire in a small room of the unit. The fire was extinguished by 8:35 a.m. with the use of the building’s sprinklers and firefighter efforts.

A puppy was rescued from the affected unit, but no injuries were reported, officials said.

Two additional units in the building sustained water damage, according to the fire department.

It was unknown how many people were displaced.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
