Palm Desert officials will host an event later this month in which residents can drop off unwanted electronics at City Hall as part of an effort to be a more sustainable community.
The “Electronic Waste Collection Event” will be held from 7 a.m.-11 a.m. Sept. 20 at 73-510 Fred Waring Drive.
Residents and local businesses will be able to dispose of certain electronics free of charge, city officials said.
Accepted items includes TVs, computer monitors, computers, printers, microwaves, phones, tablets, video game systems, radios, cameras, vacuum cleaners, stereo equipment, light bulbs and non-lithium batteries.
Items that will not be accepted will include large household appliances such as refrigerators, dryers and stoves.
The goal of this collection waste will be to remove hazardous substances like lead, mercury and cadmium out of soil and water, which can pose a serious threat to public health and the environment.
All items will be donated to Desert Arc Recycling, a nonprofit organization that “creates meaningful employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities,” city officials said.
Any businesses planning to drop off more than 20 items need to call Desert Arc at 760-404-1370.
“We invite all residents and businesses to take part and make a positive impact toward a cleaner, greener future, according to city of Palm Desert.
