Issues facing Southland residents as a result of the government shutdown may be nearing an end, as reports suggest that the Senate has reached the 60-vote threshold to advance legislation to reopen the government.

ABC7 reported that 60 “yea” votes were reached around 8 p.m. Sunday.

A framework for agreement was negotiated in a bipartisan manner, according to Politico.

Part of the deal included a stipulation that at least eight Democratic Caucus members would vote “yes” on the procedural motions to advance the government funding package to provide certainty the 60-vote threshold was achieved, as reported by Politico.

The shutdown lasted 40 days, the longest the government has been shut down in U.S. history.

CBS News reported that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-New York, would vote against the proposal.

“I must vote no — this health care crisis is so severe, so urgent, so devastating for families back home that I cannot in good faith support this (Continuing Resolution) that fails to address the health care crisis,” Schumer said.
