A power outage Tuesday morning left hundreds of residents of the Hollywood Hills in the dark.
The outage occurred a few minutes after midnight on Tuesday and left a large portion of the residential neighborhood without electricity. The affected areas include residences and businesses north of Ellighton Drive, south of Yucca Street, east of the Hollywood (101) Freeway and west of Outpost Drive, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power spokeswoman Leah McKenzie told City News Service.
“Our crews are en route to the site and are working on restoring power,” McKenzie said.
Hollywood Hills resident Dereck Andratti was driving home from Pasadena when he noticed what he called a blackout near the Hollywood Bowl. He said he saw very little lighting between Barham and Cahuenga boulevards. “Every street light is out. It’s pretty dangerous out here- it’s pitch black,” he told City News Service.
The cause of the outage was not immediately known, according to McKenzie. The DWP said approximately 400 residents were temporarily affected by the power outage.
But the DWP’s website and maps of the outage put the number at close to 1000 customers without power.
Andratti, who works on the television show Dancing With the Stars, said a large swath of his drive home felt “eerie. It’s completely dark over by the Hollywood Bowl and the Magic Castle ( on Franklin Avenue). It feels like a city without lights.”
McKenzie said the cause of the blackout is “under investigation” and there was no estimated time for the power to be of restored in the neighborhood.
