The Los Angeles City Council Tuesday confirmed the appointment of Beatrice Hsu, a real estate executive, to the Harbor Commission, which oversees the management and operations of the Port of Los Angeles.
The council voted 14-0 to confirm Hsu, who was nominated by Mayor Karen Bass to replace outgoing member John A. Pérez, who resigned to take a seat on the city Fire Commission.
Councilwoman Traci Park was absent during the vote. There was no discussion on the matter.
Following the vote, Bass said Hsu has the experience, leadership and commitment to serve the city on the commission.
“As an economic engine for our city, region and country, our Harbor Commissioners play an important role in executing a forward-looking vision that keeps the Port competitive in the global economy. I’m confident that Bea Hsu will help achieve that goal,” Bass said in a statement.
Hsu is the founder and principal of BCH Group, a provider of independent advisory services in real estate strategy, investments and development.
She also serves as the board director and founding CEO of Builders Alliance, a nonprofit organization established to accelerate home rebuilding and community recovery following the January 2025 Palisades fire, as well as a board member at the James Campbell Company, a privately-held real estate firm headquartered in Hawaii.
Hsu previously served as on the board of airport commissioners, as well as the interim CEO for Los Angeles World Airports.
She began her career as a senior legislative deputy for then-Los Angeles City Council President Eric Garcetti.
Hsu earned a bachelor’s degrees in both political science and history at Yale University, and was a public affairs fellow at CORO Southern California.
