A fatal six-vehicle crash snarled traffic through a busy freeway interchange near downtown Los Angeles Tuesday.

The crash was reported just after 8 a.m. Tuesday on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway near Soto Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Garry Swanson, 61, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office.

A second person was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries, a CHP officer said.

The crash and response prompted a Sigalert for all three lanes of the northbound I-5 transition road where the freeway meets the 60, 10 and 101 freeways in Boyle Heights.

Northbound traffic on I-5 was backed up to Ditman Avenue, according to Sigalert.com.

All lanes were reopened at about 12:10 p.m., according to the CHP.
