A United Airlines flight bound for Newark, New Jersey, was forced to return to Los Angeles International Airport shortly after takeoff Thursday due to a mechanical issue, but the plane landed safely and there were no reports of any injuries.

United Airlines flight 1855 left LAX at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, but about an hour into the flight, the plane turned around and headed back to the airport.

“United flight 1855 safely returned to Los Angeles to address a mechanical issue,” according to a statement from United. “Customers deplaned normally at the gate and we’ve arranged for a new aircraft to take them to their destination later today.”

No other details were released about the nature of the mechanical issue affecting the Boeing 757 aircraft.

According to United, the flight had 175 passengers aboard, along with six crew members.
