A Los Angeles Police Department patrol car crashed into a pickup truck in an intersection while en route with red light and siren to a robbery call, injuring the two officers and the truck’s driver, a police sergeant said.
It happened at 9:56 p.m. Sunday at Jefferson Boulevard and Western Avenue, according to Los Angeles police Sgt. Hendley Hawkins.
“The officers were responding to a possible 211 (robbery) suspect foot pursuit,” Hawkins said. “The officers were eastbound on Jefferson, Code 3, lights and siren. The Nissan Frontier was northbound on Western.”
Because of the possible liability, the LAPD had the traffic skid team do a complete full-scale investigation with measurements and a complete scale diagram, Hawkins said early Monday morning.
The intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Western Avenue remained closed through the early morning hours as the investigation continued, he said.
Both officers and the truck driver complained of pain and were taken to a hospital to be checked and treated, Hawkins said.
