A 42-year-old man in a wheelchair was killed Friday when he was struck by a vehicle that left the scene in Arleta.

The crash occurred about 8 p.m. in the 13100 block of Terra Bella Avenue, said Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Randy Modrell.

The suspect vehicle is a dark-colored Cadillac SUV with tinted windows and front end damage, LAPD Officer Nuria Vinegas said. It was last seen northbound on Ilex Avenue from Terra Bella, Vanegas said.

The victim was struck in an unmarked crosswalk, which is where a crosswalk would be at an intersection, Modrell said.

The suspect should have known to take due care at that point, Modrell said.

“I think a driver is required to stop any time there is a man in a wheelchair in front of him,” Modrell said.
