A former chairman of the Los Angeles Mission College Foundation is accused of stealing almost $10,000 from the organization that raises private donations to support the Sylmar college, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.

Jose Luis Oliva, 37, is scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 12 on one felony count each of grand theft and forgery, District Attorney’s officials said.

Oliva — the foundation’s chairman between January 2011 and January 2013 — was released on $20,000 bond following his Tuesday arrest, authorities said.

Oliva allegedly wrote three checks made out to “cash” totaling $9,956 from the foundation’s account and deposited the money in his personal bank account between June 2012 and January 2013, Deputy District Attorney Alison Estrada said.

Oliva is charged with forging another foundation member’s signature on one check, the prosecutor said.

If convicted, he could face up to three years in county jail, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
