Sheriff’s detectives on Friday sought the public’s help in recovering a $25,000 bronze statue stolen from a fountain at San Dimas City Hall.

The statue, called “Catching Frogs,” was stolen some time after 9 p.m. Thursday, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County sheriff’s San Dimas Station. It depicts two boys at the edge of the water reaching for a jumping frog.

“It was reported that the frog portion of the art was stolen Tuesday night … and discovered Wednesday morning,” according to the statement.

The artwork was dedicated in 1998 after being displayed at the San Dimas Festival of Arts two years earlier, according to the sheriff’s department. It was to be a featured part of the Annual Wildlife & Landscape Show, which takes place at San Dimas City Hall this weekend.

Although the statue has an estimated value of $25,000, it may have been stolen for its scrap value, officials said.

Anyone with information about the theft was urged to contact the San Dimas Station at (909) 450-2700.
