A Compton man convicted of the August 2008 gang-related killings of three people, including two brothers, in an unincorporated area near Inglewood was sentenced Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Superior Court Judge Steven R. Van Sicklen imposed the sentence on Luis Erasmo Rivera Garcia, 30, who was convicted last Nov. 14 of three counts of first-degree murder for the Aug. 10, 2008, shootings of Jose Farias, Victor Farias and Vidal Rebolledo, all of Los Angeles, and the attempted murder of a fourth person.
The four were shot at Imperial Highway and Western Avenue in an unincorporated part of the county near Inglewood.
Jurors also found true the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders, along with gang and gun allegations.
Authorities believe Garcia mistakenly thought the victims were rival gang members, but they were not, according to Deputy District Attorney Cynthia Barnes.
Garcia was arrested in a January 2011 gang sweep. He has has remained in jail without bail since then.
