Two children were injured Tuesday, one seriously, when the siblings were hit by a car while crossing a street near their elementary school in Torrance.
The accident occurred shortly before 9 a.m. at a four-way-stop intersection at Madison and Newton streets, said Torrance police Sgt. Robert Watt.
A 5-year-old boy suffered injuries and his 8-year-old sister suffered minor injuries, Watt said. The motorist, who remained at the scene and was interviewed by police, was not arrested, but the investigation was continuing.
The Chevrolet Sonic was southbound on Madison Street when the driver turned left at Newton Street, striking the children, who were walking north in the crosswalk, Watt said.
The children, whose names were not immediately released, were en route to Walteria Elementary School, where they are both enrolled, Watt said.
