Eight people were injured and one man was arrested Thursday for allegedly assaulting a firefighter after a four-vehicle crash on the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in Canyon Country that has temporarily shut down two lanes, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The chain-reaction crash on the northbound 14 Freeway at Sand Canyon Road was reported at 2:50 p.m., according to CHP Officer Jennifer Cassidy.
Eight people were hurt, and county fire landed a helicopter on the freeway to remove some of the injured victims, said county fire Dispatch Supervisor Melanie Flores.
“Seven people suffered minor injuries and one person had moderate injuries,” Flores said. “We also airlifted five people from the scene to various hospitals. They included three adults and two children.”
Cassidy said one driver was arrested by CHP officers after he lost his temper following the crash and assaulted a firefighter. His name was not immediately available.
The collision shut down the No. 1 and 2 lanes and a SigAlert was declared by the CHP at 3:27 p.m, according to Cassidy.
The closure was expected to remain in effect until at least 5:30 p.m., according to the CHP.
There was no word yet on what caused the crash.
