A 23-year-old man pleaded not guilty Monday to 16 felony counts, including attempted murder, stemming from a stand-off with sheriff’s deputies in Lawndale.

Travis Herr is facing seven counts each of attempted murder of a peace officer and assault with a machine gun on a peace officer and two counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling.

Herr allegedly fired off weapons at midday Oct. 29 in the 4200 block of 164th Street. Nearby homes were evacuated and offramps in the area were closed as law enforcement responded to the scene.

Herr then allegedly fired at sheriff’s deputies from both inside and outside of his home. He was shot and wounded by deputies about 90 minutes after the shooting started.

Herr, who remains in custody in lieu of $7.7 million bail, is due back in court Jan. 6, when a date is expected to be set for a preliminary hearing.

If convicted of all charges, he faces a possible sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
