A 49-year-old woman was killed and four other people were injured Monday in a collision in Hawthorne, authorities said.

The crash on El Segundo Boulevard near Crenshaw Boulevard was reported at 3:38 a.m. when an SUV rear-ended an Access Services minivan.

The fatally injured woman was in the minivan, but her name was unavailable pending notification of her next of kin, coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter said, adding that she was 49.

A 21-year-old woman driving the SUV and her male passenger were taken to a hospital to be checked out. Hawthorne police will investigate the possibility of DUI or drug impairment “as a routine part of their investigation.”

Access Services provides transportation for people in wheelchairs and those with other disabilities. At least two people who were in the van were taken to a hospital to be checked out, but they were not believed to be seriously hurt.
