A 61-year-old man who allegedly tried to kidnap a 4-year-old girl from a Lancaster yard, only to be foiled by the child’s teenage brother, was charged Tuesday with kidnapping and other counts.

Earl Duane Williams was charged with kidnapping to commit another crime, kidnapping a victim under 14, lewd act upon a child and criminal threats, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment and is due back in court Jan. 6.

Williams allegedly parked his recreational vehicle near the 300 block of West Kildare Street around noon Saturday and approached the girl, asking her name, according to sheriff’s officials and prosecutors. He then allegedly grabbed the girl from her front yard and started to walk away with her, but the girl’s 13-year-old brother grabbed her arm and yelled for help, prompting the suspect to flee.

According to prosecutors, when Williams was arrested and was being driven away from the scene, he threatened the victim’s mother and said he planned to return.

Williams faces up to life in prison if convicted of all counts.
