A man who was shot in the leg in South Los Angeles was fatally wounded when a bullet hit his femoral artery, causing fatal bleeding, police said Monday.
The shooting was reported in the 9000 block of South Hoover Street around 8:45 p.m. Sunday, said Lt. D. Duran of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southeast Station.
Jose Rincon, 28, of Los Angeles died at a hospital, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.
“It was a walk-up shooting at a Valero gas station,” Duran said. Police thought the victim would survive when he was transported to a hospital because he was only shot in the leg, but the bullet struck a major artery, he bled profusely and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
There was no indication of motive for the shooting and the only suspect description available was that the shooter wore “dark clothing,” the lieutenant said. Investigators Monday were reviewing surveillance video for leads.
