A car crashed into a parking structure beneath a Montebello apartment building Sunday, prompting temporary evacuations and causing minor injuries to the driver and his passenger, police said.
Driver Chris Gonzalez told ABC7 another car cut him off as he drove in the 800 block of North Wilcox Avenue about 2:50 p.m., causing him to swerve and lose control of his 2011 Honda Accord.
“We don’t have any witnesses to corroborate that,” Montebello police Lt. Mike Flores said. “We are not actively looking for any suspects.”
The Honda was northbound when it swerved across opposing lanes and stuck an exterior wall of the carport of the building at 821 N. Wilcox, making partial penetration, Flores said.
Four apartments were evacuated until it was determined that they were safe to occupy, at which time residents were allowed to return home, the lieutenant said.
The driver was not cited or arrested, Flores said.
Firefighters at the scene treated him and his male passenger, both in their 20s, for cuts and abrasions. They also complained of pain, but declined to be taken to a hospital, Flores said.
