A biology and chemistry teacher at Los Altos High School in Hacienda Heights was charged Wednesday with three felony counts for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old female student.
David Park, 37, of Chino Hills, could face up to four years and four months in state prison and be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life if he’s convicted of three counts of committing a lewd act on a child.
He was ordered held in lieu of $150,000 bail while awaiting arraignment March 9.
Park, who was arrested late Monday by sheriff’s Special Victims Bureau deputies, was allegedly involved with the student from last September through November.
In a statement released Tuesday, Hacienda La Puente Unified School District Superintendent Cynthia Parulan-Colfer said the student came forward late Monday afternoon to allege “that there had been an inappropriate relationship between her and a teacher.”
“The principal at Los Altos immediately notified the sheriff’s department to investigate and the district also began its own investigation,” she said. “The teacher was taken into custody by the sheriff’s department on Monday evening and also placed on administrative leave.”
Park also worked as a “walk-on” football coach in 2007 and 2008 at Ruben Ayala Chino Valley High School in Chino and Western Christian High School in Upland.
