A 25-year-old man was killed in an officer-involved shooting in South Gate after aiming his stolen vehicle at officers, authorities said.

The shooting occurred in the 10500 block of Seminole Avenue around 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Kelvin Moody.

Moody said South Gate police officers responding to a report of two suspects trying to steal a vehicle detained one, and the second suspect drove an older model Toyota Camry at them at high speed, at which point he was fired upon.

After the gunfire, the suspect reversed the vehicle into the front lawn of a home. The suspect was subsequently found dead in the vehicle, Moody said.

The vehicle was the one from South Gate whose theft had not been reported, Moody said. He said the second suspect did not appear to be involved in the incident and was released.
