Funeral services will be held Wednesday for a 4-year-old girl who was fatally struck by a driver who left the scene but surrendered the following day.

Violeta Khachatoorians was with her parents around 5 p.m. March 6 in front of the family’s home in the 1200 block of East Wilson Avenue when she ran between two parked vehicles and was struck in the westbound lane. The girl was thrown by the collision into a parked vehicle, police said.

Violeta was pronounced dead at Glendale Adventist Medical Center.

The driver who struck her left the scene. The next day, 55-year-old Shant Badleean of Glendale, surrendered to authorities at police headquarters. He was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and released on $50,000 bail the same day, according to jail records.

Mourners held a candlelight vigil at the crash scene, and assembled a memorial of children’s toys, flowers and other items. The Glendale  Police Officers Association led a donation drive to help the family pay for the funeral.

Violeta’s funeral will be held at 1 p.m. at Forest Lawn-Glendale.
